My class wrote a constitution for our own room. (I hope you like it!!)
We the Citizens of Room 10, in order to form a more perfect classroom, make peace among fellow classmates, establish a system of government, provide for the common needs, and secure the feeling of freedom, rights, and responsibilities in our classroom, do ordain and establish this constitution for the Students of Room 10.
Article 1
The Legislative Branch of our government will consist of a congress. A congress member must be at least 10 years of age, and must be a member of our classroom. Congress is able to make laws. The law is then sent to the president for a signature. If the law is vetoed, a 3/5 vote in congress will overrule the veto. Congress consists of 5 elected members in this classroom.
Article 2
The executive branch of our government shall consist of a president and a vice-president. The president must be at least 10 years old and a member of this room. President & vice-president will lead the line, report on the classroom activities/behavior, students should apply to the president and vice-president have final say in jobs. This is an elected position. President and vice-president are limited two consecutive terms. Vice-president works with congress.
Article 3
The judicial branch of our government will consist of four Supreme Court judges. This is an elected position. Judges must be at least 10 and member of this classroom. The Supreme Court's job is to solve cases, approve laws, make decisions, and handle problems in a court session. Court sessions are held at recess whenever needed.
Article 4
Our elected positions will last for 1 week. Speeches will occur on Fridays at lunch, elections will occur after speeches. Primary elections will occur if needed on Thursday morning.
Done in convention, by the Unanimous consent of the students present, this twenty-sixth day of march, 1997. In witness whereof we have here unto subscribed our names.
